1. Rice University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, in conjunction with the International Center for Natural Hazards and Disaster Research at the University of Okalahoma, the Texas Medical Center, and the Rice University Energy and Environmental Systems Institute, presented a National Symposium on "Severe Storm Impacts in the Gulf Coast." (March 15-16, 2006).
2. Rice University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department offered a conference on “Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters” at Rice University. Experts from academic, public, and private sectors discussed technical, social, and economic issues associated with tropical storms and hurricanes in Gulf Coast communities. This conference is a follow up to the March 2006 conference at Rice University on "Severe Storms Impact and Disaster Response" (May 8-9, 2007).
